About Pioneer Concrete & Fuel, Inc.
Pioneer Concrete & Fuel, Inc. has been a part of Butte for over 100 years. Our office, at 825 Maryland Avenue, has not moved since our beginning. In the early years, the company was known as Pioneer Fuel & Brick Company. Coal, brick, and cement were some of the products offered to our customers then. Over the years, Butte and the surrounding communities have relied on our company to provide coal to heat their homes. We also provide building materials to complete projects that make up the communities we live in today. Butte and Anaconda have a rich history in the mining industry; we are proud to have played a vital role in providing quality building materials to many projects over the years that are a part of our historic communities.
Our History
Pioneer Concrete & Fuel, Inc. has been a part of the Farrow family since the 1950s, when Ted Farrow began working for and later became manager of the company’s aggregate plant. On September 4th, 1962, Ted was elected as Secretary/Treasurer. At that time, Ted and Shirley Farrow became stockholders in the company as well. The next generation of the Farrow family, Ted and Shirley’s sons, grew up with Pioneer Concrete & Fuel being a substantial part of their lives. Each began working for the company at an early age and became stockholders, one in the early ’70s, and the other in the early ’80s.
The company saw many changes over the years as it grew and expanded to meet the ever-changing demands of the ready-mix concrete industry. In 2003, Ted and Shirley retired from the company that had been a big part of their lives for over 50 years. Today, the company is owned and operated by their son Rodd Farrow. Together with his wife, son, and daughter, Rodd continues to run the family business with the same commitment and values he learned from his parents.
